50 countries — live prices, visas, weather and holidays in one place
How to think about a Europe trip
Europe is small on the map and large in practice. A fast train crosses a country in two or three hours; a cheap internal flight adds a destination in a day. The common mistake is cramming in too many cities — three cities in ten days beats six.
Northern and central Europe are expensive; the south and east cost half as much for the same experience. On a tight budget, Italy south of Rome, Portugal, Greece and Eastern Europe give far more per euro.
When to visit
May–June and September are the sweet spot: good weather, fewer tourists, lower prices than peak summer. July–August is hot and crowded. Winter is a season of its own — Christmas markets, empty museums, cheap flights.
A day or two of date flexibility saves more than any other trick.
Moving between countries
The Schengen area removes border checks between most European countries — you enter once and move freely for up to 90 days in any 180. The UK, Ireland and most of Eastern Europe are outside Schengen, with a separate check.
Trains beat flights for distances up to about 700 km once you count airport transfer, security and waiting.
