With a history stretching all the back to 1200 CE, the current keep was built by the MacCarthy of Muskerry dynasty, and dates from around 1446. The world-famous Blarney Stone is located at the top of the castle, and is said to grant those who kiss the stone with a "magical gift of the gab", or enhanced powers of eloquence.
